The way Ari and his family spoke to each other, I found disrespectful and rude and did not seem genuine, to me.

I figured out Timmy’s story before it was explained but this would have blindsided me had I read this as a kid. It wouldn’t have helped that pretty much everywhere Ari turns, he’s being watched by animals with white eyes. It’s a children’s horror so things can only get so dark, but for a children’s book I found some of the stuff happening so eerie and scary.

The story has a good fast pace with Ari narrating his tale and us finding out more and more about the creepy things happening and the legend of the Twig Man as the story progresses. One days he accidently kicks his ball into the woods a place he isn't suppose to go but does anyway which starts a series of creepy things to happen.Sana is a Kurdish born politics graduate from London who also happens to be a Formula One fanatic that never misses a race and an avid watcher of anything horror-related! There is one mention of someone travelling to Arizona but that does not leave the reader with anything other than the knowledge that someone travelled; whether by plane, train, or automobile, we cannot know. Ari’s determined to find his sister and save her from the Twig Man, you can see how much love he holds for her. I would like to make it explicitly clear that a child does die within this story—having his head forcefully smashed by an adult character, albeit the caricatured version of an adult man. But things are not as they seem in the woods and soon strange things start happening and Ari finds himself the target of some creepy goings on.
