About this deal

Eve Chase has something of the poet in her: herdescriptions of a manor in an ancient forest are worth reading forthemselves. Rock Point is not just a place of rugged beauty overlooking the Cornish coastline, it’s a place full of secrets and scandal. But a disturbing message left by one of the Alton children tells her that Black Rabbit Hall's history is as dark and tangled as its woods. It was an unsettling read at times but also perfectly displayed the complexities of sibling rivalries and familial love.

The Birdcage: The spellbinding new mystery from the - WHSmith

The Birdcage by Eve Chase Review | MMB Book Blog The Birdcage by Eve Chase Review | MMB Book Blog

The story revolves around the three Finch girls, Flora, Kat and Lauren, the daughters with all different mothers, of Charlie Finch. The far west of Cornwall is evoked in all its wild and mystical glory in this lyrical and propulsive family drama about three sisters whose lives have been overshadowed by a tragic secret on the day of the 1999 eclipse. The house, Rock Point is at the centre of the story, it’s the key and you see it in all its faded glory. Family secrets are my weakness when reading fiction and this novel has the perfect blend of secrets, excellently drawn characters, and an extremely atmospheric setting. This book portrayed a somewhat unique study of sibling relationships - both the good and bad aspects of sisterhood and sibling rivalry. As kids, they used to spend every August together at their father’s summer home in Cornish; Flora and Kat teaming up against Lauren, whom they resented since her mother was Charlie’s favorite. Her reading obsession continued throughout her teenage years when she studied both English Language and English Literature at college.
