About this deal

My niece is 8 years old and the book was perfect for her because we would take turns reading the book. From the bestselling author of the Shopaholic series and our YA Finding Audrey, comes the first of a duology for young readers about a girl learning to become a fairy from her imperfect fairy mom, with a tech twist. The relationship between the mother and the daughter drew me in, as it was built on friendship and understanding. Do you feel any better?’ asked Daddy. ‘No,’ said Mummy. ‘I don’t know what’s wrong. I’m going to look at the Fairy Doctor App.’ Ella spends time with fairies and mermaids, helping save whales and solving robberies, all with the help of her fairy mother - although Mummy Fairy's spells do not always go to plan! Ella is a fairy-in-waiting, as she is not old enough to go to fairy school, but her Aunty Jo and her Granny are also fairies and help and support her, mostly! When fairy Aunty comes to school with Ella and tries to help her with her science project and defeat the unkind Zoe, fairy magic doesn't always go to plan...

Mummy Fairy!’ I said. ‘You’ll freeze! And your head will turn into a snowball! Shall I call Aunty Jo? Maybe she can cure you.’

Mummy Fairy and Me by Sophie Kinsella | Goodreads

But I’m sure I can cure myself,’ she said, putting me down again. ‘I just need to find the right spell. Look, here’s a cure for spots. Spotseridoo!’ She pressed a code on her Computawand – bleep-bleep-bloop – and all her spots disappeared. Fairy Mom and Me is the first book in Sophie Kinsella’s first ever children’s series, with a focus on family, magic, and fun!

She tried all the different medicines in the cupboard, but nothing worked. At last Daddy called the doctor. Mummy doesn’t like rest. She likes working hard and having fun and being busy. As soon as the doctor had gone she got out of bed. Looking very wobbly, she stamped her feet three times, clapped her hands, wiggled her bottom and said, ‘Marshmallow’ . . . and POOF! she was Mummy Fairy. But her wings were all dull and droopy, and her crown didn’t shimmer. Read this extract from Mummy Fairy and Me: Fairy-in-Waiting, the second book in the series that features more exciting escapades including magic spells, some extremely cheeky monkeys and the best birthday party ever! The magic world in this book differs from traditional magic, where you find the tall, pointed witch hats and the magic wand...

Mummy Fairy and Me - Penguin Books UK

In this brand-new book of magical adventures, there are very naughty monkeys, a swimming pool filled with ice cream, and the best birthday party ever - complete with giant cakes and fairy dust.Ella's family has a BIG secret - her mummy is a fairy! But sometimes Mummy Fairy's magic goes wrong, and then it's up to Ella to help. This is not my typical type of reading even when I was a kid, as it’s a bit too cutesy for my tastes but I can see the over the top adorableness would work well for the younger kids. The physical copy also has really cute illustrations to look at while you read.

Mummy Fairy and Me/Fairy Mom and Me - Sophie Kinsella

Ella's family has a big secret - her mummy is a fairy! She can do amazing spells with her computawand. Only, sometimes the spells go a bit wrong, and that's when Ella steps in to the rescue.

Games

Beautiful were the morals that the author tried to engrave into her little audience, and especially at the end where the protagonist did not like cheating and preferred upholding a trust. Mami Fee & ich ist die erste Kinderbuchreihe von Sophie Kinsella, die man sonst von ihren Shopaholic Romanen kennt. Unicorns are a big deal. They have their own celebratory day each year (April 9) and they’re the national animal of Scotland! Plus, we have tons of wonderful books that are as sensational as everyone’s favourite mythical beast. Dennoch mochte ich die Protagonistin und die nicht-perfekte-Feen-Mama sehr gerne. Auch die Ansätze, was den Umgang mit fiesen Mitschülern oder Fair Play bei Wettkämpfen angeht, fand ich toll.
