As members of Wadham Middle Common Room (MCR), the college's graduates have access to some of the most modern and comprehensive MCR facilities in Oxford. The active graduate student committee organises a wide range of social and academic activities during each term, from exchange dinners, guest nights, wine tasting and weekly Welfare teas, to student-subsidised trips to the theatre and graduate seminars where students present and discuss their research. Notable members of the college in its early years include Robert Blake, Cromwell's admiral and founder of British sea-power in the Mediterranean, John Cook the first solicitor general of the English Commonwealth and prosecutor of King Charles I, the libertine poet and courtier John Wilmot 2nd Earl of Rochester, and Sir Christopher Wren. Wren attended the meetings of scientifically inclined scholars which were held by Warden John Wilkins (Cromwell's brother-in-law) in the college in the 1650s. Those attending formed the nucleus of the Royal Society at its foundation in 1662. [ citation needed] In 1974, after more than three and a half centuries as a men-only institution, Wadham was among the first group of five all-male colleges at Oxford to admit women as full members, the others being Brasenose, Jesus College, Hertford and St Catherine's. The College has in place a Waste Management Policy which forms an integral part of our approach to preserving, wherever possible, natural resources. However, this policy can only work with your cooperation. We all have an obligation to play a part in minimising waste and recycling.Arthur Onslow (1708), a great Speaker of the House of Commons, and Richard Bethell, who became Lord Chancellor as Lord Westbury in 1861, were members of the college. Wadham College was founded in 1610 by Dorothy Wadham, according to the will of her late husband Nicholas Wadham, a member of an ancient Devon and Somerset family. Wadham’s hall is one of the largest amongst Oxford colleges. It’s notable for its great hammer-beam roof and the Jacobean woodwork of the entrance screen. The hall is decorated with portraits of the founders and of distinguished members of the college. There are elected welfare officers on both the SU and MCR committees. Two 20th century Lord Chancellors, F. E. Smith (Lord Birkenhead) and John Simon, were undergraduates together in the 1890s, along with the sportsman C. B. vii) Produce work of a standard commensurate with their individual ability and circumstances and appropriate to the stage they have reached in their course. The Wadham Handbook is updated every summer and all students then become bound by the updated version. College rent and food charges are also revised in an agreed process involving current students, and all students then pay the updated charges. For the College to agree, tuition must be available, and the tutors concerned must be satisfied that the applicant is sufficiently well qualified and strongly motivated to do well at the proposed subject. Changes are not usually permitted into courses for which the College does not admit students. Changes are usually not possible where a significant part of the new course, or a necessary University examination, has been missed, so a student considering a transfer should consult the relevant tutors at the earliest possible stage. If the First Public Examination in the student’s present subject is imminent, being allowed to change will normally depend on doing well in it.

The Hall, one of the largest in Oxford is notable for its great hammer-beam roof and for the Jacobean woodwork screen. Portraits include those of the founders and of distinguished College members. The Tutorial Board is a committee of the Warden and all Tutorial Fellows and College Officers, and is responsible to Governing Body for all the teaching functions of the College. Tutorial Board usually meets three times a term to make decisions or recommendations to Governing Body on a wide range of matters concerning students, such as academic work, welfare, and admissions. SU representatives are invited to unreserved sections of meetings. The Library has WiFi internet access, and has desk space over three floors as well as an attractive mezzanine ‘beanbag’ seating area, and a separate discussion room for group study. Next to the beanbags there is a 'Mindfulness Corner' comprising jigsaw puzzles, graphic novels, colouring books and other puzzles and games. The Library houses a working collection of undergraduate texts across all subject areas, including multiple copies of core texts and staff very much welcome new suggestions. The Merifield annexe, named after Merryfield, Ilton once home to the Wadhams, is in Summertown, about 1.2 miles from the centre of town. [32]
