About this deal

The more you spend, the better the sound quality. This isn’t always true, but in general the best-sounding DAB radios are also some of the most expensive. While spending more is generally a good idea, you should be aware that some radios have an inflated price due to a flashy design rather than the sound quality. But if you’re happy to pop over to the R3 and switch this manually each time, you can enjoy the best which the R3 has to offer, which is considerable. It’s a delightful CD player, for example, those full-quality files filling the room with well-balanced sound. And the louder you play, the happier the R3 seems to be; the bass available from the two 75mm drivers is remarkable as you raise the level; its response begins in the 40s of hertz and rises impressively smoothly. Of more interest is how the Revo converts these signals to sound. The SuperSystem is built around a pair of 3 inch BMR drivers that fire forwards. BMR is an acronym for Balanced Mode Radiator and this is something that Revo has been working on for a little while. Technically, a BMR is two drivers in one. The front of it is a panel section that produces high frequency signals by passing an electrical current across the panel section exciting it to produce soundwaves. This is then augmented by mounting the panel on a conventional pistonic mount that allows it to produce far more bass than would be the case.

But in fact there are 10 presets for each type of radio; you can access the rest by pressing and holding the ‘preset’ button then pressing the left-right buttons to reach presets 4 to 10. Recall them the same way, without the holding. It’s easy, versatile, and very useful. To ramp up your musical experience even further, the Revo SuperSystem comes with a unique 80-watt amplifier that comes from two BMR flat-panel speakers on the device. This helps to deliver an amazingly powerful yet subtle sound experience. You can also use the system to provide your morning alarm call if you like.

Cutting-edge sound modelling techniques have been used to design SuperCD’s award-winng sound profile. In tandem with our custom hardware design, SuperCD’s proprietary EQ configuration develops a warm open sound with clarity, detail and deep rich bass – free from coloration and distortion and benefiting from an expansive sound field. The engineering that went into this unit also means that you continue to access the same unbeatable music quality at any volume. Even if you crank the sound up all the way, you’ll be able to achieve the same composure with even the most complex tunes. The 15cm bass driver certainly helps to support this, ensuring that you can always obtain a rich and warm undercurrent in your songs. Aesthetically, SuperCD is a balanced blend of modernity and mid-century charm – perfectly proportioned, substantial, handsome. Whilst always looking to innovate, we also keep one eye on the past, learning and taking inspiration from the great designers of the 20th century. We believe that form should follow function and that attention to detail matters. Good design and the use of quality materials enrich and elevate the user experience. What makes this Revo extra special is the built-in CD player. This lets you play all your existing CDs while still having access to the latest streaming functions, plus much more. The CD player is compatible with a wide range of formats, including CDR and CDRW.

The Revo SuperSystem sound quality is so compelling that it makes the machine one of the top-performing all-in-one systems on the market. Use UNDOK to conveniently search or browse through more than 30,000 stations and podcasts from around the world. Design & Materials There is a ‘Music Player’ option which you can use to play either from USB or from music shares on the network, although unfortunately the R3 couldn’t see our NAS drive of music (only our PVR, from which it bravely offered to play episodes of Home and Away etc., but of course couldn’t). From USB it was able to play MP3, AAC, WMA, WAV and FLAC, the last two up to 24-bit/48kHz, so no support for higher-res PCM or DSD.Connect up to your home network using the built-in Wi-Fi and you've access to a whole world of music. With a choice of thousands of radio stations from around the globe, there truly is something for everyone. With easy searching via genre and a clear and comprehensive OLED display, finding the stations you might like is simple. For the ultimate in convenience, the Revo SuperCD comes with high quality Bluetooth APTX connectivity. Connect up to your compatible phone, tablet, laptop or PC and you'll be able to wirelessly stream your stored music and music streaming services. This high quality version of Bluetooth also ensures the sound quality is closer to a wired connection than ever.

In addition to Internet radio and streaming, the SuperCD also offers DAB and FM wavebands. DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) gives access to the widest range of stations in the UK, in crisp and clear digital sound quality. In case your favourite stations aren't available in DAB, then the SuperCD is also equipped with an FM tuner. Boasting RDS for station naming, this is almost as easy to use as DAB and still provides great sound quality. The only real issue with this machine is that it’s probably too big for a smaller room, as it would fill up too much space. For the Revo SuperSystem DAB+, the company has chosen the range of materials available based not just how they look, but how well they support the quality of sound emitted. At the other end of the frequency extreme, the Revo isn't quite so well sorted. There is no shortage of bass from the lower firing driver and the mounting system is sufficiently stout that there is no sense of it sounding flabby or uncontrolled but the integration between it and the BMRs isn't perfect. The changeover isn't perfect between the two and the tonality shifts very slightly as it does so. Unless you happen to be listening to music where something critical is happening at this crossover point, the effect is not too pronounced though and the Revo does a more convincing job than many rivals. The REVO SuperCD combines everything that a high-class, modern one-box music system has to offer. It receives digital DAB and DAB+ radio, analogue FM radio and Internet radio and has a vertical top-loader CD player and USB media player. Video Then we consider its excellent build quality and huge list of features, which make it a strong contender indeed. If you have the space and are after a one-box system to do it all, this will do nicely. Look for brands that have a reputation for good sound quality. The best brands for sound quality at the moment are arguably Revo and Ruark, though Pure and Roberts make some great-sounding radios too. Wirelessly stream music to superconnect from a wide variety of Bluetooth® enabled devices including smartphones, tablets and laptops. SuperCD’s audio characteristics are the result of a considered blend of the finest electronic, acoustic and software design. Premium quality audio components, all-digital technology, cutting-edge sound modelling techniques and a carefully engineered bass porting system combine to deliver category defining performance.
