About this deal

All in all, this is still gripping enough to provide an entertaining ride. I liked the first book much better as it had plenty of dark undertones. This one offers standard fare in comparison. The blurb doesn’t do justice to the book and totally misrepresents it. It also contains minor spoilers. Thankfully, I read the blurb only after completing the book. The dude Millie shot is not Douglas! The real Douglas is a schlubby goober and not the handsome-ish man Millie killed. Oh dear. As in every contemporary domestic thriller, there were some farfetched plot points that would NEVER occur in real life. A couple of these are left unexplained.

Every day I clean the Winchesters’ beautiful house top to bottom. I collect their daughter from school. And I cook a delicious meal for the whole family before heading up to eat alone in my tiny room on the top floor. I have made an incredibly bad judgment call. I have underestimated an extremely dangerous person. And now I will pay the ultimate price. Cleverly plotted, complex and multi-layered, Millie discovers that she is not the only one whose life is built on secrets and lies and comes face to face with a master manipulator. Will she be able to turn the tables? such a charmer🫦you all truly need to read this book and meet this man. he’s not only a charmer…he’s a lot of things🤭i swear freida has me absolutely swooning over this man🦋if freida writes a romance book…please just take all of my money🤌🏼 Followers of my blog will know how much I loved The Housemaid (see my review here) and that I also featured it in my Top Ten Books of 2022 (see full list here), so I was absolutely over the moon to see that Freida McFadden has written a sequel which will be published in February 2023.

I have gotten into the habit of listening every time I pass the guest bedroom door. It’s snooping. I know it is— I won’t deny it— but I can’t help myself. But his wife Wendy is hiding behind closed doors. Douglas says she’s ill and prefers to be left alone. But Millie soon finds evidence that something more sinister is going on. I'm upgrading my rating from 4.5 stars to a solid 5, thanks to the clever twists, and eagerly looking forward to delving into more of the author's twisted tales sooner rather than later. Then comes Wendy, I HATED her so much. She is such a narcissist, all I wanted was Douglas to just tell her her reality and find a life of his own. I wouldn't even mind if her pathetic little gold digging arse got killed off in a brutal manner. What she got was so mild compared to what she deserved. *insert multiple swear words here* Sure, I realize this story is meant to be taken with a grain of salt, preferably served on buttered popcorn, 🍿 but, the last two parts were too crazy for my taste!

Andrew, Nina’s husband, is the perfect guy, too good to be true. He empathises with Millie’s plight but can he go against his own wife? thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat. It was a wonderful reading experience as I wish every novel I read was like this! If this is the part of the job where i find out cecelia has actually been dead for ten years and is a ghost, i’m quitting. I finally have the chance to use a phrase so many of my reviewer-friends do: it’s a popcorn thriller! Treat it as such than as a literary classic. As long as you read it with your logical side kept aside, you can have fun with it. A huge thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of The Housemaid’s Secret by Freida McFadden in exchange for an honest review. What It Is AboutI've come across several comments stating that the second book doesn't quite match the excellence of the first. However, I don't entirely agree with this sentiment. There are still incredible twists in this book that caught me off guard—not just one, but three brilliantly executed twists that took me by surprise. The first twist, while slightly more apparent, is not due to the author giving it away but rather because the book's concept encourages readers to think outside the box, fostering doubts about everyone's motives and leading us to suspect every move made by the other characters, all in an attempt to deceive us (or perhaps not-so-poor Millie, who retains her big heart to help others). A description perfectly suitable both for The Housemaid and The Housemaid’s Secret, and yet. It was just a different story and I don’t think I can describe it better than that without spoiling things. Which – I don’t even know how this book managed to feel so different, considering all the similarities. We follow Millie again. She’s in desperate need of money, again. She starts working for a wealthy family and something about the place feels very wrong.
