About this deal

The Evans NPG Waterless Coolant has a higher boiling point, at 369°F, and a lower freezing point, at -40°F, than most all motorcycle coolants on the market. This wide temperature range allows operation in any condition. Many users found that this coolant lasted in their vehicles for a very long time. If you’re worried and trying to save a little money, just add distilled water to the system. Distilled water is not the same as tap water, as tap water has chemicals that can lead to corrosion inside your cooling system. Type of antifreeze: If your vehicle was manufactured between the 1920s and 1990s, buy Inorganic Acid Technology (IAT) antifreeze. If you own a Toyota, Honda, GM, or any other new model equipped with an aluminum radiator, go with Organic Acid Technology (OAT) antifreeze. If your car is an Asian or European make, Hybrid Organic Acid Technology (HOAT) Antifreeze is what you should need. As pointed out in a 2019 study from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Energy Initiative (MITEI), EV value chains are far from optimal. Batteries contribute up to 40% more upfront EV production emissions than an equivalent ICE vehicle, offsetting the original goal of electrification: lowering emissions. To neutralise this, OEMs must explore avenues for long- term carbon reduction across a vehicle’s lifespan. Incorporating lubricants and coolants that aren’t made from fossil fuels presents a distinct opportunity for automakers to broaden their sustainability strategies. Anti-foam. (Coolant has special additives in it that prevents foam from forming. If foam appears, the cooling system’s efficiency might be reduced) At best it could be a couple of hundred quid to repair the cooling fan, more than that to replace the head gasket, or at worst, it could be over a four-figure sum for a new engine. First, locate your car’s coolant tank, it’s usually marked with a cap that either says ‘engine coolant’, ‘never open when hot’ or a symbol with an exclamation mark. It could also be marked with a combination of all the above. Avoid using products that contain silicates, phosphates, or other similar substances. These chemicals can damage the aluminum and magnesium components on your motorcycle, causing them to rust and corrode. Consider using organic-based fluids if you don’t specifically need an anti-corrosive coolant. Make sure you find the right tank (adding antifreeze to the screen wash, brake fluid or power steering reservoir could cause damage).

D3306, D6210, Cummins 14603, Chrysler MS 9769, Ford WSS-M 97B51-A1, JCB STD00088, John Deere JDM H24 Green and blue traditionally represented Inorganic Additive Technology (IAT) coolants. This is generally considered an out-dated type of coolant that contained phosphates and silicates, and required changing every two years on average. Historically coolant/antifreeze came in either red or blue – these colours told us about the specific formula and ingredients of each product, but this is no longer the case. Up next we would recommend the Maxima Performance Coolant as a great alternative to our top recommendation. Maxima is a company we’re familiar with and it’s easy for us to recommend this high-performance coolant for most riders.

The fact that drivers can no longer distinguish different types of coolant by colour is a problem. For instance if you buy a used car, it’s incredibly difficult to tell what type of coolant is in the system unless you drain and flush the system, and whether or not it’s safe to top up the reservoir with a fluid of the same colour. Those of you with BMW motorcycles should take a look at the BMW Grey Coolant. This is the OEM coolant for BMW bikes and a great choice to use with your motorcycle. Fluids, oils, and greases are essential to the maintenance and performance of internal combustion engines (ICEs). However, in an era of mobility defined by the quest for lower environmental impact, the pollution potential of these products is problematic. BMW uses an HOAT coolant that is both nitrite and phosphate free to prevent aluminium corrosion in its engines. It is blue in colour: Many cars are only used on local journeys. On short trips, the engine barely reaches normal operating temperature, so the cooling system isn't tested. Red Antifreeze is suitable for all year-round usage in automotive and commercial petrol and diesel engines and in certain industrial applications. It is manufactured using pure mono ethylene glycol, and OAT (Organic Acid Technology) anti-corrosive additives and inhibitors; it has been formulated to be particularly effective in protecting heavy-duty diesel engines for periods of up to 5 years.

Propylene Glycol: The benefit of this type is that it has low toxicity so it is safer to use and won’t damage engine parts. If the coolant needs topping up, don't remove the filler cap unless the engine is cold – you could be scalded by a sudden release of pressurised hot water. Tap water contains magnesium, calcium and hardness ions that contribute to scale and deposits in your radiator that reduce cooling efficiency. Also it contains chlorides that can be very corrosive. It is recommended to be flushed out of the system every 150,000 miles or 5 years. (Typically used in Major European, German and Asian car manufacturers, some Chrysler vehicles) Thanks to our patented formula, Prestone is safe to mix with all coolants in all engines so there’s no need to worry about what colour is already in the system or spend time talking with a mechanic. Prestone is guaranteed to be compatible with any existing coolant in the cooling system, and offers long-lasting protection against wear, corrosion and extreme temperatures. Mixing and Using Coolant/Antifreeze: Dos and Don’ts to Remember If you can’t find out for sure what kind of anti-freeze is in your vehicle, it’s best to complete a coolant flush so you know for sure what’s in there. You can use it right of the can without any mixing, as it is sold pre-mixed with corrosion-resistant, de-ionized water. The chemical formula ensures that it doesn't leave behind scale or mineral deposits in the radiator or the rest of the system. Boilover protection is up to 256-degrees Fahrenheit while freeze protection is for up to negative 26-degrees Fahrenheit. This configuration makes the Engine Ice TYDS008-03 perfect for ATVs, motorbikes, snow machines, and desert vehicles, etc. Next came Organic Acid Technology (OAT) coolants, whose chemical make-up offered better protection for cooling systems, and extended the life of the coolant. These ‘Extended Life Coolants’ (ELC), were usually orange in colour and offered a five-year or 100,000-mile change interval. They could be a blend of IAT and OAT chemicals, and were therefore named ‘Hybrids’.

If the coolant level is low this can also cause problems with your car heater.A symptom of this could be cool air coming from the dashboard vents even when the dial is set to ‘hot’. Instead, all you need to do is add some distilled water to top off your system. While diluting the system with more water lowers the boiling point and raises the freezing point, a system with only 10 percent anti-freeze and 90 percent water will still only have a freezing point of 26 degrees Fahrenheit. It’s hard to go wrong with any of the Honda OEM products. Sources The best thing to do when you aren’t sure what kind of coolant/antifreeze is in your car is to use a universal coolant that’s safe to mix with other fluids. Some premium coolant/antifreeze, like Prestone, can be safely mixed with other types of coolant, so you get peace of mind that the products will work safely without causing any problems within the cooling system.” What Do Coolant/Antifreeze Colours Mean? It is also necessary to identify the types of coolants and water-free coolants. These fluids cannot be mixed so riders should verify which type of coolants their bike uses before buying a different product. The various types use separate colors to make this process easy. Cooling fans in car engines should start up automatically. If they don't there may be a fault with the coolant temperature sensor, the wiring or the fan itself.
