For those seeking a fruity and vibrant fragrance, YSL Beauty continues to re-invent its ever-epic perfume and debuts new Black Opium Eau de Parfum Neon. This has the best coffee drydown of all the black opiums without losing on freshness, and just for that, I nominate it as the perfume of my winter 2023/24. I absolutely love this perfume, but because I find it so easy to wear, it’s not a date perfume - to me, it’s a “throw on when you need something safe that makes you smile” kind of perfume. At first I feel something like "bubblegum" but after a couple of minutes it fades and gives way to very captivating floral notes!

It’s hard to discern individual notes for me, but when my boyfriend commented, “you smell nice, you smell purple” I thought that was a cute remark. It becomes sweeter and more subdued in the dry-down when the citruses chill out and the vanilla and musk become apparent, but overall from start to finish it's a very cheerful, exuberant fragrance. The base heralds back to that original YSL Black Opium EDP signature with Coffee, Vanilla and Cedarwood. The dragon fruit note is more of a fancy way of saying 'fruity notes' in my opinion, dragon fruits don't have an intense taste or smell anyways.

Please read the full reviews and consider your own needs and preferences before making a purchasing decision.I love the smell, it's not as generic and while the original BO is (in my opinion) suited just for colder months, I can see myself wearing the neon flanker in the warmer months as well. And for some reason my nose (/brain) can't pick up the coffee notes at all - maybe I drink too much coffee. Top notes are Pitahaya, Mandarin Orange and Citron; middle notes are Orange Blossom, Coffee and Jasmine Sambac; base notes are Vanilla and Musk.

I thought the longevity was weak but it lasted on my top and you can also reapply it so longevity isn’t that bad. This feels fun but mellow, not as 'electrifying' as what you'd think for neon, but I think the kind of dragonfruit pink color of the juice is a pretty accurate depiction of it.It’s quite a lot more fresh than an orange blossom essential oil type of scent, which is more heady and intoxicating, rather than dancing around you all fresh and bright.

I’m quite happy with it being that way round, as the Neon lasts much longer on my skin and I just prefer it overall. The delicious signature coffee note is noticeable in the opening, mixed with lemon and orange, which is a nice fresh twist. It was sort of pleasant at first, but the citrus mixed with coffee and vanilla is a bold bizarre mix!
