But after a disturbing twist of events, Harley quickly realizes that her past is darker than she could ever have imagined. So I can see why it’s been likened to the adult Harry Potter, but honestly until reviews were read, I didn’t even think about HP. The book reads much more like a young adult novel aimed at teenage girls (lots of good looking muscular young men falling in love with the heroine and she can't understand why yadda-yadda). There were apparently other verbs that were used even more (73 chuckles vs 17 smirks), but once I started noticing it it just seemed like all any of the characters were doing was smirking and it got really distracting. It kept my attention to the end, I didn't realise who the culprit was for all the mischief going on in both worlds right up until they were revealed, which was great!

Remember, the journey through a book series is not just about reaching the end but also about the memories created along the way. Yes it has ever so slight samesy situations as Harry Potter, like orphanened, magic and there’s a kind of school element I guess.
