Now looks wise, the boombox 3 now has that huge JBL Logo on the front which I know some people just aren’t a huge fan of… but that’s neither here nor there. So you can not pair a Boombox 3 to an original boombox, or an Xtreme 2, charge 5, or Pulse 3 or Flip 4. but more importantly, this speaker can be connected to 2 devices at the same time so that you and a friend can both be DJ, and this speaker has zero latency across the board when watching movies or videos on your phone whether you using an iPhone or an android device.

The speaker sits on a small plastic base, and its large plastic handle has a grip pad along the top to make it easier to carry. It's also better-built, with an IPX7 rating for water resistance, though we don't currently test for this. So this speaker sounds a little louder than the Boombox 2 when they are both playing at 80% volume… but its bass is just as strong as the Boombox 2. The 'Camo' variant has a green handle, and the fabric around the speaker's body has a camouflage pattern.Across the front face of the speaker, there are controls for power, Bluetooth pairing, play/pause (this button can also skip forward a track with two presses, but oddly cannot skip backward with three), and plus/minus buttons for volume control. The JBL offers a better-balanced sound profile that can produce a deeper low-bass than that of the Alpine.

It has a fairly well-balanced sound profile, although it lacks a bit of low-bass, and doesn't produce as deep a bass as the next-generation JBL Boombox 3. Its sound is also more customizable thanks to the bass and treble adjustments featured in its companion app.

The knobs are arranged in much the same way as on the previous model, except for a few minor changes. Regarding speaker set ups, both the Original boombox and boombox 2 have dual 4 inch frontward firing woofers, dual 3 quarter inch frontward firing tweeters and dual passive radiators that shoot out the sides. Our JBL Boombox 2, like any of our portable speakers, has 1 year manufacturer warranty from the date of purchase. However, all of these speakers have the same advertised battery life of 24 hours… but that advertised battery life on all of these speakers is with these speakers playing at 50% volume, which is already a good listening volume. It's also better-built and is battery-powered, making it better suited for long listening sessions spent outdoors. Bluetooth also doesn’t travel well when submerged, so best to keep its water exposure to solid ground.
