It is a rare case, where the board game does not seek to completely replicate its video game counterpart. There is no levelling up as classic games, instead your reward for killing enemies consists in a selection between 4 randomly selected stat cards that are more powerful than the basic ones you start the game with.

The players can then choose to continue the Hunt into the next chapter, using the same Hunters and their enhanced decks, too.Any time the Hunt Track reaches a blood moon, all enemies will respawn on their designated locations, including any enemies that may have previously been engaged in combat.

This can leave the board feeling a little crowded especially if everything coalesces in one location. The scope of the game is to follow the instruction in the mission card and accomplish it before the timer runs out. Stat cards may do things like add extra damage or speed, or add additional effects like Stagger or Stun, or perhaps even allow the Hunter to draw a card when played, or heal damage after the attack. Simply put, if you draw the attention of monsters in this game, their movements and their priorities must be ones that put you at your greatest disadvantage at all times. No end of lost lives has had me trailing actions back and identifying where it went wrong and what could have been done.
