Colors take advantage of the greater range, too, becoming darker and less contrasty, which is also an improvement. Again, the blu is the same 2010 blu Anchor Bay released, so it has no extras but the newer commentary. Yes, Lions Gate just put the original Evil Dead out on 4K Ultra HD, so of course I'm gonna talk about it.

The movie is beautifully presented in 4K resolution with High Dynamic Range in its original aspect ratio of 1. Even though some colours have a bit more pop than what is on the Elite disc, it’s not my preferred image. I can't say there's a heap more detail, like we're counting every individual hair on Bruce's head, since we seem to have pretty well hit the limit of what was captured on film. Unbeknownst to them, the building is a hotbed of demonic activity, and when Emily unwittingly performs a forbidden ritual, she unleashes a malevolent force that infects the entire structure.It is also worth noting that this edition does not contain the short film Within The Woods as had previously been announced.

In the original version this is a completely static shot throughout; from her looking out the window, turning round, until it cuts to the next shot.Five college students travel to a remote cabin in the woods and unwittingly unleash a monstrous evil force hellbent on their total destruction. Based on Sam Raimi's 80's classic film, Evil Dead tells the tale of 5 college kids who unleash an evil force. The superior quality copy of the short film Within The Woods is a big upgrade to the standard internet VCD version.

Then Anchor Bay took the wheel again in 2002, releasing the 20th Anniversary edition, which had the Elite extras, more and introduced the world to widescreen 1. A fairly barebones release in terms of disc content, it's a re-package of an earlier German Astro Filmworks release, which is probably a re-package of the 1999 US R1 Anchor Bay release.

But it's worth the trouble, because the bonus disc includes some really great stuff, many of which was brand new for this release. I've read on another forum that the handful of awkward-framing instances in the widescreen version have been re-framed for this release. Since it’s just the three of them in chairs talking about the past, it’s a nice feature to watch the interaction of ladies off screen if studying the culture of actresses. Disc 1 is just the UK PAL version of the US NTSC Book Of The Dead DVD as above, but the bonus disc contains the open matte version of The Evil Dead, which is the same transfer as was used on the earlier Anchor Bay 1-5 picture disc DVD releases, and has the zooming editing tweak as previously mentioned. So if you have a strong preference for one version or the other, make sure you're getting what you want; but conveniently, it's cheap and easy to get both in the same package.
