About this deal

It may be due to the RS being new, and the parts just need to loosen up a bit, but the use of carbon over a metal such as titanium doesn’t feel like the right more. It feels like the decision has been made for aesthetic rather than functional reasons.

The touch screen on the RS-2 is a great addition, but what really makes the RS-2 worth the upgrade is that the same screen can be used as a display when it’s paired with the RavenEye system.The first major advantage of the new Ronin RS 2 is the size and weight; it’s smaller and lighter than the old Ronin-S. The weight reduction is welcome. However, I wasn’t so keen on the smaller and more compact sizing. However, in use, you soon get used the layout but would recommend adding an arm to help with the handling. I use the Ronin-S at least once a week, and the additional side grip is the one accessory I couldn’t now do without. What makes this feature so incredible is that with ForceMobile, a feature of the Ronin App, you can control the gimbal by moving your mobile. Out of the box, the set up was incredibly straight forward and easy. We tried out the focus motor and it was nice to control it from the scroll wheel. If I would have connected another scroll wheel I could have had one scroll wheel control the motor and the built-in wheel control a setting in the camera. Very useful on long shoots and run & gun moments. Even before it came out of the box, this system was already impressing the video team and getting them hyped to use it.

Looking at the image below, you can see the actual difference between the gen 1 and 2 gimbals. While it doesn’t seem like a lot in the photograph, every millimeter and ounce freed up makes a difference! The big feature that the team could not cover though was the vertical grip add-on. It wasn’t included with our kit so we can’t comment on the usefulness of this feature (yet). That said, let’s dive right into what you get with this gimbal and the features it provides. Everything else in the system, having come from using the previous generations of DJI gimbals, was familiar, fast, and easy to use! It felt like slipping on a new pair of custom-fitted gloves. The Titan Stabilization Algorithm and SuperSmooth feature offer significant upgrades compared to DJI Ronin-S. Despite the relaxed rake angle, any anticipation of sluggishness is completely unfounded. The broad handlebar, providing excellent leverage, coupled with the upright riding position and the manageable 160kg kerb weight, ensures effortless navigation through traffic. While your upper body remains erect, your legs are positioned forward, giving the impression of a heel-toe shifter, but it's equipped with a toe-only unit, which can feel a bit awkward when adjusting your ankle beneath the lever. In this review, I’m looking at the more expensive Combo kit which includes the added extras including the focus motor, phone adapter, RavenEye and plenty more. Flashlight: The system tilts the camera all the way forward so users can grip the base like a flashlight.
