Digital TV and Radio

Televisions and radios using the new digital technology offer significant benefits to vision impaired people:

  • Radios can announce which programme you are tuned to and give information about programme content etc.

  • Televisions can provide Audio Description (AD), an additional sound commentary covering scenery, action, taking place and expressions on actors’ faces; thus offering a huge boost to TV enjoyment.

if you have Sky digital services then you can already receive AD.

Some new digital televisions come with built–in AD facilities — check before you buy or contact TS staff.

You can buy a set–top box to convert your Television to digital channel reception with AD.

Contact TS staff for the latest information about these products.
